The Government of Bangladesh (Ministry of Health and Family Welfare) first initiated efforts to develop national health accounts in 1997. This was led by the Health Economics Unit (HEU) of MoHFW. Work has been undertaken in two phases, both implemented by Data International, based in Dhaka, on behalf of the ministry. Two sets of estimates have been prepared, covering the 1996-1997, and 1999-2001 time periods. The second set of estimates are based on the OECD System of Health Accounts.
